If your agent requires a guarantor for your tenancy application and you do not have a UK based candidate, not to worry! Canopy has teamed up with Housing Hand to provide a guarantor replacement service.
What is a Guarantor Replacement Service?
This service allows you to register with our partner, Housing Hand, to act as your UK guarantor. As a guarantor service, they will cover you in the same way an individual will so you don't have to pay rent up-front when moving into a rental property.
Please note: This replacement service needs to be approved by your agent. If you do not see this option in your rent passport, you will not be able to utilise this service.
Am I eligible for the guarantor replacement service?
You must meet housing Hand's eligibility criteria. This service is available for both working professionals and students.
Working professionals:
A working professional is someone who is employed or self employed. You must:
-
Earn at least 1.5 times your share of the monthly rent
-
Have proof of income, for the last 3 months
-
Have proof of identity: a passport, provisional or full driving licence
-
Have proof of address evidence dated within the last 2 months
-
Have a Co-signer
Students:
Someone in full-time higher education. You must:
-
Have proof of identity: a passport, provisional or full driving licence
-
Have proof of study documents from UCAS or a letter from your University
-
Have proof of address evidence dated within the last 2 months
-
Have a Co-signer
What is a co-signer?
A co-signer is a second point of contact for Housing Hand. They are jointly liable for repaying Housing Hand should you default on your rent.
Co-signers are therefore an important part of the whole process so it's worth understanding all requirements fully.
- The co-signer will need to provide evidence of their ID, income and current address. They will receive an email from Housing Hand to provide these detail by completing their form.
- The co-signer must be a working professional, not a student.
- The co-signer cannot be living in the rental property.
- The co-signer can be UK based and non-UK based.
