In order to evidence your right to rent you must show the appropriate ID and documentation to your future agent/ landlord.
It is a legal requirement for agents and landlords to complete a right to rent check on all their tenants prior to moving in. Your agent/ landlord will also be required to keep a copy of the evidence so don't be alarmed if they take a photocopy.
Canopy has made these ID checks and document storage easier for both renters and agents. An agent will send you a request if they require this on your RentPassport.
For a full list of valid right to rent evidence please click here. You are able to instantly verify your right to rent with a UK/IE passport.
Do not forget to take your uploaded evidence to your agent to review in person. A right to rent check is not complete until they have reviewed all evidence in person.
Follow the steps below to complete your right to rent check. Ensure you have all your supporting document evidence handy.
Log into your RentPassport and select "Right to Rent" under the 'Extra Requirements'. This can be found towards the bottom of the page.
Click "Start Right to Rent check".
Choose 'I don't have UK / IE Photo ID'.
You will now need to provide us with some more information to help us narrow down which evidence is acceptable for your scenario. If you have applied for the EU settlement scheme or a UK visa, you must provide a share code obtained from the Home Office. See here on Generating your Right to Rent share code.
Now it's time to upload your documents. Please click "Upload documents" to see a list of acceptable documents.
Choose a document from the list and upload this from your device or take a picture. Once you have uploaded your right to rent evidence, click "Submit" and now this section is ready for your agent to complete.
Please note: You must take your documents to your agent for them to review the document(s) in person.
