In order to evidence your right to rent you must show the appropriate ID and documentation to your future agent/ landlord.
It is a legal requirement for agents and landlords to complete a right to rent check on all their tenants prior to moving in. Your agent/ landlord will also be required to keep a copy of the evidence so don't be alarmed if they take a photocopy.
Canopy has made these ID checks and document storage easier for both renters and agents. An agent will send you a request if they require this on your RentPassport™.

If you have a Biometric Residence Card, please follow the steps below to complete your right to rent check.
Step 1:
Log into your RentPassport™ and select "Right to Rent" under the 'Extra Requirements'. This can be found towards the bottom of the page.
Click "Start Right to Rent check".
Step 2:
Choose 'UK Residence Card / Others' under the list of acceptable photo ID.
Step 3:
Click the link to the Home Office online service. With the change to government guidance, renters with a biometric residence card must evidence their right to rent with a share code.
Generating your Right to Rent share code
Once you have obtained the code, please enter this into the 'Right to Rent Sharecode' field.
Step 4:
Congratulations, you have now completed your right to rent section. You agent will review the right to rent evidence on the government portal using your share code and complete their checks.
