Whilst having a personal relationship or living in joint accommodation doesn’t impact your credit score, a financial association can.

So if you’re jointly responsible for the finances on things like utility bills, bank accounts or credit cards make sure those you’re sharing the responsibility with are up to scratch.

As your financial associates appear on your report. Companies may check their credit history when deciding whether to approve you for credit.

Are you or have you ever been jointly responsible for any of the following:

  • Utility bills?

  • Credit cards?

  • Insurances - contents, travel, car?

  • Bank accounts?

If you answered yes to any of the above, then it may be wise to check your financial associations in your credit report as they could be holding you back from getting the credit you may need.
